To look back on the lobbying achievements we made in 2020, Lucien Burm wrote a letter, reflecting on these matters, as well as our 2021 vision. Read the letter below.

Where to start in 2020? It has been a crazy year for all of us. Also when it comes to our lobbying efforts. Starting the year we were focused on our evergreens such as a better arrangement for stock options, a startup visa and a fiscal stimulus for investors.

However, in March COVID-19 came around. It required us to shift gears and make sure that startups and scale-ups weren’t forgotten in the support packages by the government. It took a lot of calls, meetings and angry letters but in the end we made sure that loans were made available to bridge the current investment-gap. Our partners and the Regional Development Agencies did great work, they deserve to be mentioned here. Not all of you were helped, but we definitely gave it all we got.

In september, during Prinsjesdag, and later on in an extra startup letter by the government more investments were announced for startups and scale-ups, through several funds such as Invest-NL. A great step. We hope it helps to relieve the corona-pain.

Policy wise we have been active on a European level regarding the Digital Services Act. By organising webinars and by handing over a statement to politicians we hope that this important piece of legislation will enable startups to grow across the continent.

Finally, these months a lot of political parties are presenting their election manifesto’s. We see a great endorsement of innovation and startups. Let’s hope that a new government will take on this ambition as well!

Let’s hope 2021 will be better for all of us. With some nice results in our pocket, we strive for an even more ambitious startup policy next year.
